Maine coon
Maine coon is the biggest raised race among cats. Its weight is usually between
7-9 kilograms. These cats originate from American state MAINE, where they used
to be kept as agile rodent hunters. Due to harsh north-American continent
climate they evolved into resistant rough cats with sturdy elongate body and
square shape. Hair is half-long, dense and with rich stock, smooth to touch.
It’s longer around head, where it creates some kind of a “collar”, and on belly
and rear legs so-called “panties”. Care of their hair is not so tough like with
the other pedigrees because it doesn’t tend to become tomentous. Deep brush-up
once for a couple of days and occasional bath is fully sufficient.
Head is middle-sized with square muzzle and strong chin, even-ending when
viewing from aside.
Ears are long, wide at a base, very demanded are lynx-like brushes; long pieces
of hair growing from the top of the ears.
Eyes are big and rounded. May be green, gold or colored differently. White cats
may have blue eyes.
Maine coon is to have half-wild look; in that case it is the most beautiful.
When you look into its eyes, a wind of wilderness has to flow on you...
A body of a right Maine coon is well-proportioned with wide chest and middle-long
neck; tomcats have it wider and more muscled. Strong legs have middle height and
huge round paws. Between fingers they’ve got pieces of hair. Maine coon may be
proud of its tail, long at least like the length between shoulder-blade and base
of the tail, wide when being stretched out, thick with flowing hair. It’s
especially beautiful when a satisfied cat walk with it upright; it resembles
racoon’s tail (here is the origin of the second name).
Maine coon may have various colors of the nature, only following ones are not
allowed: chocolate, cinnamon, lilac, fair, or colouring with badges.
They are friendly and good-natured, curious and enjoy playing. Compared to their
size is their voice surprisingly gentle, occasionally resembling pigeon’s cooing.
